Privacy Policy

Last Updated: January 24, 2026

The Narrative Graph ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit our website and use our AI-powered narrative structuring software (the "Service").

By accessing or using the Service, you consent to the data practices described in this policy.

1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT

We collect information in three categories to provide our Service effectively:

A. Personal Information You Provide

  • Account Data: When you register, we collect your email address, name, and password credentials.
  • Billing Information: All payments are processed by Paddle.com, our Merchant of Record. We do not store your full credit card number or banking details on our servers. We only receive transaction receipts and subscription status identifiers from Paddle.
  • Support & Feedback: Records of your correspondence with our support team, feature requests, and bug reports.

B. User Content (Your Manuscripts)

  • Input Data: We collect the text, manuscripts, prompts, character notes, and narrative structures you input into the Service to generate graphs and analysis.
  • Output Data: We store the AI-generated content and graphs returned to you so you can access them in your project history.

C. Automatically Collected Data

  • Log & Telemetry Data: When you use our Service, our servers automatically record information, including your IP address, browser type, operating system, timestamp, and interaction events (e.g., button clicks, errors).
  • Cookies: We use cookies strictly to maintain your logged-in session and store user interface preferences.

2. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

We use your data for the following specific purposes:

  • To Provide the Service: To process your inputs through our logic and AI algorithms to generate the narrative graph, analysis, and text suggestions.
  • To Improve the Service: We analyze aggregated usage trends (e.g., "how long users spend on the graph view") to improve the User Experience and fix bugs.
  • Transaction Management: To manage subscriptions via Paddle.
  • Communication: To send you administrative emails (e.g., password resets, policy updates) and marketing updates (if you have opted in).

CRITICAL NOTE ON AI TRAINING

We do NOT use your User Content (stories, manuscripts, inputs, or outputs) to train our internal artificial intelligence models. Furthermore, we utilize Enterprise-grade agreements with our AI provider (Google Gemini/Vertex AI) which explicitly prohibit the use of customer data to train their foundation models. Your creative work remains yours and is not used to teach the AI how to write.

3. SHARING OF INFORMATION AND SUB-PROCESSORS

We do not sell your personal data. We share information only with trusted third-party service providers required to operate the technical infrastructure of the Service:

  • Google Cloud Platform & Google Gemini: Provides our core backend infrastructure, secure cloud hosting, and AI model execution. Located in the USA.
  • Paddle: Acts as our reseller and Merchant of Record to process payments and handle tax compliance globally.
  • Cloud Database & Storage Providers: We use industry-standard providers to securely store user accounts, relational data, and narrative graphs.
  • Hosting & CDN Services: We use third-party services to host our web application and deliver content quickly to your device.
  • Analytics & Performance Monitoring: We use third-party tools to monitor system stability, track errors, and analyze aggregated usage patterns to improve the software.
  • Communication Services: We use third-party providers to manage transactional emails (like password resets) and marketing campaigns.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g., a court order or subpoena).

4. INTERNATIONAL DATA TRANSFERS

The Narrative Graph is operated by a team based in Brazil, but our servers and data processing infrastructure are located primarily in the United States. By using the Service, you acknowledge and consent that your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States. We implement appropriate safeguards to ensure your data remains protected in accordance with this Policy.

5. DATA SECURITY AND RETENTION

Security: We use industry-standard security measures, including encryption at rest and in transit (SSL/TLS), to protect your User Content. Access to the production environment is strictly limited.

Retention: We retain your Personal Information and User Content only for as long as your account is active.

  • If you cancel your subscription, your data remains accessible until the billing cycle ends.
  • If you request account deletion, we will delete your User Content from our active databases. Please note that fragments of data may persist in encrypted backups for a limited period (up to 30 days) for disaster recovery purposes only, after which they are overwritten.

6. YOUR RIGHTS (GDPR, CCPA, & LGPD)

Regardless of where you live, we grant all users the following rights:

  • Right to Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to Rectification: Correct inaccurate data in your account settings.
  • Right to Erasure: Request that we delete your account and all associated content ("Right to be Forgotten").
  • Right to Portability: Request a copy of your input data in a structured format.
  • Right to Opt-Out: Unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time via the link in the email.

Notice to California Residents: We do not "sell" your personal information as defined by the CCPA. We do not share your personal information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at support@thenarrativegraph.com.

7. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

Our Service is intended for users 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If we become aware that a child has provided us with personal information, we will take steps to delete such information immediately.

8. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
